When the movie was released in 2000 it became one of the biggest hits in Indian cinema while she got widespread attention throughout the nation and became an instant celebrity. Next followed her "Gadar: Ek Prem Katha" in 2001, which also became a blockbuster hit.

While she is making waves as an actress, her personal life is mired in misunderstandings and court wrangling involving her family members. Amisha Patel is dating Vikram Bhatt, Bollywood director. Vikram Bhatt is the brother of Mahesh Bhatt, another renowned Bollywood director. She earlier dated Wan Lee, an oil magnate during her modeling days.
